Channels

Prerequisite: Tutorial: How to AutoTweet from Joomla in 5 minutes

You can access this feature by clicking on Channels in the toolbar links area of AutoTweetNG or Joocial. The following is the main required configuration to publish into social networks.

Available operations:

  • New: operation to create a new channel.
  • Edit: a channel can be edited to modify its attributes.
  • Publish / Unpublish: operations to either publish or unpublish channels. Unpublished channels are not used.
  • Copy: a channel can be copied, to be duplicated. For example, to create several ways to publish into the same social network.
  • Delete: a channel can be deleted to avoid any further processing. If a channel is delete, related Requests, Posts, and Rules are not delete.

Social Networks are kind with testing messages, duplicated or spamming messages or repetitive deletions. Please, DO NOT test with a live channel, test with the Mail Channel or with a different account than your main account. Particularly, Facebook allows to enabled a Test App, associated with the real App.

Each channel has the following options:

  • Type *: Channel type that defines the target social network.
  • Name *: only informational.
  • Description: only informational.
  • Status: if set to Published, the channel will added into the processing, otherwise it will be ignored.
  • Autopublish: If autopublish is set to Yes, the message is automcatically processed and published into the channels. Otherwise, messages will wait as Posts in Pending status.
  • Include Hashtags: If this setting is set to Yes, the message is include the defined hashtags (at plugin or rule level). Hashtags are mainly used by Twitter and Facebook.
  • Media mode: Messages can be posted as Status message only (text), or message with text and image. Media availability depends on the content extension.
  • ID: Record number in the database.

It is the simplest channel, allowing to received a mail for each processed messages. To learn how the general workflow or to keep track of the processed messages, only these fields have to be filled:

  • Sender mail (From) *
  • Sender name *
  • Recipient mail (To) *

The channel is ready to publish. To complete the channel creation, save it and create a new article in Joomla! to received a mail with a first message.

Facebook Channels are the most commonly implemented channels. There are three Facebook channel types:

  • Facebook (default): posts are published into the target. A post has a text message and an image.
  • Facebook Link: Links are published into the target. A Link has an Url. Facebook shows the Link with information loaded from the page. Open Graph metadata is recommended to be added into pages to enhance the displayed information.
  • Photo: Photos are published into the target. A photo is add into a target album.

Each channel has a defined target. According to the current available Facebook Objects, they are:

  • Profile: content is published in a user account.
  • Page: content is published in a company page.
  • Group: content is published into a group.

  • Use Your Own App: Yes (default), a Facebook App must be created and authorized to publish content into Facebook target.
  • App ID/API Key *: Identification of Facebook App associated with the owner
  • App Secret *: Access secret to identify the app operations.

Alternatively, an advanced configuration allows to define a Facebook App with its own Canvas Pages (Yes, with Canvas Page). Unless, you have specific requirements for a Canvas Page, it is not recommended for the general usage.

  • Click on the Authorize button and accept the required publishing permissions to generate the access token.
  • Click on the Validate button to check the generated access token.

Once both operations are completed the channels is fully authorized, and only the target channel must be configured in the remaining step.

  • Facebook Channels *: Select one of the available targets. The authorized User wall, Groups and Pages are shown.
  • Access Token *: Once a target is selected, this field is automatically filled with the associated channel token.
  • Click on the Validate Channel button to check the selected channel access token.
  • Expires at *: Once the channel validation is completed, this field is automatically filled with the token expiration. No further operation is required to renew the token.

The channel is ready to publish. To complete the channel creation, save it and create a new article in Joomla! to publish a first Post.

Firstly, to create a Twitter Channel, a Twitter App must be created, please visit Twitter Developers, and remember to enable the read-write permissions (Keys and Access Tokens / Access Level, Read and write).

Finally, assign the following fields associated with the Twitter App:

  • API/ Consumer key *
  • API/ Consumer secret *
  • Access token *
  • Access token secret *

The channel is ready to publish. To complete the channel creation, save it and create a new article in Joomla! to publish a first Tweet.

There are three LinkedIn channel types:

  • Profile: a message is published into the user account
  • Company: a message is published into the company page
  • Group: a message is published into the group

Firstly, to create a LinkedIn Channel, a LinkedIn App must be created, please visit LinkedIn Developer Network and remember to enable the read-write permissions (Access Token, scope rw_nus/rw_groups/rw_company_admin).

Finally, assign the following fields associated with the LinkedIn App:

  • API Key *
  • Secret Key *
  • OAuth User Token *
  • OAuth User Secret *

The channel is ready to publish. To complete the channel creation, save it and create a new article in Joomla! to publish a first Post.
